Political priorities 2012
  • Health & Social Services To support the regions in improving the organisation, management and financing of health and social services. Support regions in sharing knowledge and experience and implementing knowledge-based policies. Contribute to an AER political debate on the priorities of the future European Cohesion Policy and the future EU budget priorities and debate the position of health and social policy therein.
  • e-he@lth Support regions in identifying and implementing e-health policies and tools in their regions. Raise awareness among regional decision-makers about the potential benefits of e-health and help them implement e-health in their regions. Promote the regions’ achievements and needs at European level, in particular through cooperation with the EU institutions and external stakeholder organisations.
  • People with disabilities Raise awareness among the regions about the UN Convention on the rights of people with disabilities and the obligations it creates on the regions. Support the regions in implementing the UN Convention, in particular as regards the provisions on awareness-raising (Article 8), accessibility (Article 9), health (Article 25), habilitation and rehabilitation (Article 26). Mainstream disability issues across the AER structure and work.
  • Guiding Principles Regional preparedness for demographic change Equal Opportunities for all.
Main objectives
  • To set up a network of interregional cooperation in the various fields of health and social affairs.
  • To disseminate regional practice in the areas of health and social affairs and to develop political initiatives aimed at influencing the relevant European policies.
  • To take initiatives in order to strengthen links between the European regions - by way of their participation in Commitee activities.
