Did you know that nearly one tenth of the European population lives with some kind of disability?

The primary responsibility of implementing the UN-Convention lies with the National Authorities at various levels. Effective and efficient implementation of the objectives of the UN-Convention requires strong and sustainable cooperation among both, regional and local authorities in Europe.
This Handbook was drafted to assist the regions in the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities. It will be updated with more detailed information regarding the four articles that are in the AER’s Working Group’s focus.
During the last meeting of the working group on 10th May, the decision to develop a project around the themes of awareness-raising and accessibility was made.
We propose to develop a series of training sessions for regional politicians, officers and stakeholders on the UN-Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities. The aim would be to raise awareness of obligations created by the UN-Convention and to focus on awareness raising and accessibility provisions.
The province of Istanbul proposes to take the lead of the above-mentioned project. We are looking for regions that would be interested to join this project and participate to the training sessions.
Our aim is to apply for co-financing under an EC programme call for proposals.
