AER Competition for Youth from European Rregions 2009-2010
After the big success of the first edition of the AER competition ‘Do you speak European?’ the Assembly of European Regions organised the second edition of the competition, which gave young people the opportunity to explore for themselves what it means to be a part of Europe. ‘Do You Speak European?’ was a public speaking and personal expression contest which gave teams of young people between the ages of 14 and 18 the opportunity to prepare and present their views on the question: ‘What does Europe mean to you?’.
The second edition of the competition started together with the scholar year, in September 2009 and finished with a Grand Final in Brussels in Spring 2010 at the kind invitation of the Region Brussels-Capital.
The competition took place all across Europe on three levels: regional, national and European. Each participating region organised its own regional-level competition. The winners of each regional competition went on to represent their region at national level, and finally, the winners of each national competition went on to compete at the European level, at a grand final held in Brussels in Spring 2010.
The European Parliament TV Youth Channel followed the second edition of the Competition on national and European level according to Memorandum of Understanding signed between AER and European Parliament about partnership and cooperation.
34 regions from 14 European countries registered for the next edition. From September 2009 to December 2009, 34 regional level competitions took place around all Europe.
