FIRST INTERNATIONAL FORUM ON COOPERATION IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT

The 1st International Forum on Cooperation in Rural Development (FICODER) is an initiative of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Junta de Andalucia (the regional autonomous government of Andalusia) in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs.

The main aim of this initiative is to make it possible to BRING TOGETHER the stakeholders in rural development, on a local, regional, national and European level, as well as with non-EU countries. It will constitute a space allowing the participants to reflect on the present and the future of cooperation; to show the results of the policies implemented for rural development and, particularly, to establish partnerships made up of members sharing common interests.

This forum will take place on 8-10 June 2009 in Sevilla, Andalusia (ES).

QUESTIONNAIRE ON RURAL DEVELOPMENT POLICIES IN EUROPEAN REGIONS

The European Commission’s conference on ‘Rural areas in action’, which took place on 16 and 17 October 2008 in Limassol, Cyprus, served as a starting point for activities carried out by the European Network for Rural Development (EN RD). This newly launched structure, bringing together policy-makers, administrators, academics and other key actors in the area of rural development, aims at facilitating a debate over the future of Common Agriculture Policy (CAP), focusing in particular on the added-value of its second pillar. Mr Claude Tremouille, AER Committee 1’s vice-president, is a member of EN RD’s Coordination Committee, an advisory body that assists the European Commission in preparing and implementing the network’s activities.

In order to reinforce AER’s position on the future of CAP and thus enable us to defend it more accurately when it comes to issues regarding the EN RD and with regard to newly elected European Parliament and Commission, AER invited all member regions to fill-in the below questionnaire on rural development policies in Europe. The objective of our survey was to learn more about rural development policy within the regions, namely how  region define urban/rural areas, what economic sectors are present within its rural territories, as well as how European funds dedicated to the CAP second pillar are managed in the different countries  (on a national or local level).

The results of the AER survey are now available below.

19 AND 20 FEBRUARY 2009: MEETING OF RUR@CT NETWORK's STEERING COMMITTEE AND CONFERENCE ON TERRITORIAL COHESION

RUR@CT is a cooperation network gathering European regions to promote rural innovation and territorial cohesion at an operational and regional level, but also within a strategic perspective at the European level.

A methodological guide for the transfer of good practices is available on the web site www.ruract.eu. A database with a new graphic structure will be online on 31th January 2009. Thanks to this database, Member Regions of the network will have access to an index of 50 good practices analyzed and evaluated in terms of transferability. If your Region wishes to become a member of the network, a charter to be signed can be download on the web site, and a form to be filled in is also available online.

A transnational steering committee will be held in Limoges on 19th February 2009. Its agenda will be mainly the inauguration of RUR@CT tools and the operational launching of the processes for the transfer of good practices between European Regions involved in the network.

This meeting will be followed on 20th February 2009 by a conference and strategic debate about the green paper of European Commission (DG REGIO) on territorial cohesion, for which RUR@CT network will propose a contribution through a common political declaration.

These two days will be to gather the official and political representatives of RUR@CT Regions, and from European institutions. Your are invited to this event, and if you wish to attend it, please find attached the following documents :
