2012 is the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. This is the occasion for all stakeholders to express their views on the topic and to put forward their initiatives and best practices. Events dedicated to active ageing will take place throughout the year, enableing you to get inspiration and useful contacts of people working in the field.

"Active Ageing! ", you said? According to the World Health Organization, “active ageing is the process of optimizing opportunities for health, participation and security in order to enhance quality of life as people age”.

AER & EY 2012

The AER Social Policy and Public Health Committee (2) has identified active and healthy ageing as a political priority for 2012-2013. To reflect this commitment, AER Social Policy and Public Health Committee is part of the stakeholder's coalition for the European Year 2012.

AER contributes to the EY2012 through:

  • Advocacy Work: informing regions about the opportunities for investing in active and healthy ageing under the future Cohesion Policy and encouraging them to allocate funding to developing age-friendly environments in the future EU funding period

  • Raising Awareness: organising a series of events for its member regions aroung various aspects of active and healthy ageing (please see our "events" section on the right);
  • Capacity Building & Sharing Experience: supporting the cooperation between generations at policy-making level through the collaboration with the AER Youth Regional Network and through building capacity for adult education specialists in the regions;
