The economic crisis we are experiencing is expected to have a direct impact on our economies and our regions' finances. At a time when funding is scarce and investor and consumer confidence is low, it is all the more important that we as regional politicians evaluate the full implications of this crisis for our healthcare systems and find ways to improve the organisation and delivery of our healthcare services.
During our Conference on 19 March 2009 on Financing Regional Healthcare, we will discuss the potential impact of the crisis on health. We will then focus on how funding from the EC structural funds can be invested in health and also at how cooperation with the private sector can contribute to delivering healthcare.
On 20 March 2009 we will discuss latest developments in Europe and the regions in the field of health and social policy and our various thematic networks will update you on their recent activities.
In the afternoon of 18 March 2009 we will hold our 4th AER Alcohol Peer Review on preventing alcohol-related harm during pregnancy and nursing. During this meeting we will also examine the potential role of the healthcare sector in preventing alcohol-related harm, by looking at the method of brief interventions in primary healthcare, as a method for preventing alcohol-related harm.
