Outcomes of the meeting

Even beautiful weather and fairytale-like surroundings did not diminish young people's motivation to prove that 'Subsidiarity is more than a word!' for youth actively involved in European regions.

Discussing youth participation with European and regional decision-makers; brainstorming in 5 interactive working sessions 'Think Global, Act Regional!'; adapting the Strategic Programme 2010-2011 and electing the Youth President - these are only some of the results of the meeting.

During Plenary Session II participants elected the Youth President and Vice-President.The Presidential Elections were preceded by a vivid debate that proved an excellent opportunity to ask questions to 3 candidates running for Presidency.

It was during 5 Working Sessions that each Youth Committee nominated a Head chairing the Committee. According to the Strategic Programme, the YRN Presidium will now act as a main decision-making body within the Network.

Objectives of the meeting
‘Empowering youth through subsidiarity’ means giving more power to young people active in regional youth councils, parliaments and organisations!

The principle of subsidiarity is one of the core values of the AER Youth Regional Network. Following this principle, all decision-making processes should be taken at the lowest level of governance, i.e. closest to the citizens, including the youngest generation of Europeans.

AER Youth Regional Network, Europe's unique platfrom of regional youth councils, parliaments and organisations, offers a perfect opportunity to boost regional youth participatory structures.

  • Strengthening the structure of the AER Youth Regional Network.

Only a well-established structure within the Network allows its members to strive for a greater recognition of regional participatory structures in the future. To achieve this aim participants will:

  • elect the President and the Vice-President;
  • discuss the future shape of the Strategic Programme 2011;
  • discuss and adopt Membership Criteria for the 1st time.
  • Boosting youth participation

During the meeting young participants will focus on regional youth participation and will take active part in:

  • 2 Plenary Sessions dedicated to Youth Participation;
  • 5 Working Sessions: Think Global, Act Regional!

They will also discuss their contribution to YRN's 1st Working Group on Regional Youth Participation.
