The AER Brussels Office together in co-operation with Sarajevo Canton and the Croatian Regions organised this Breakfast Briefing on the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance. The topic focused on this topic (IPA) which was presented by Mr. Wild, representative from the Commission DG Enlargment. He gave a short introduction to IPA and the enlargment process and then focussed on the various actions, in particular on the cross-border cooperation action.
After his intervention, the other guest speaker, Mrs. Helen Lund, Danish Politician and CoR member presented her own initiative report on the enlargment process in South East Europe, and in particular on the IPA, emphasising that local and regional partners have to be more involved when defining such instruments.
Alltogether, there were 37 participants from the different memeber regions. The catering for the event was kindly provided by the Sarajevo Canton and Croatian Regions with hand-made regional specialities.
In order to prepare candidate and potential candidate countries for EU membership, the European Commission has designed a pre-accession strategy. This strategy includes association and stabilization agreements, partnerships, political dialogue and pre-accession aid. Since 2007, EU pre-accession funding facilities are delivered through a single, unified instrument - the so called Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA).
