The first introductory course on EU affairs and regional involvement of the "autumn EU semester" took place on the 14-15 October 2008 in Brussels (BE).

On the first day of this introductory session participants will be familiarized with the EU institutions and in particular with the role regions can and do play within the institutional framework. Further on the training will introduce participants to lobbying and networking strategies for regional actors and allow them to develop their own lobbying strategies.
The second day will be dedicated to the EU funding by giving a short overview of the financial framework conditions of EU finances and EU funding programs. In addition the training will cover two particular funding streams for territorial cooperation and for research.
The target groups for the training sessions are: officers in the member regions relatively new to European affairs; politicians wishing to refresh their knowledge and understanding of the European Union; and new staff and interns in the Brussels offices of the AER member regions. Participation in each workshop is limited to a maximum of 25 people, in order to allow for interactive work. Participation is also limited to AER member regions only.
In order to familiarize you with different locations in Brussels, the training course will take place at four different locations, each representing one region. Please make sure that you read the practical information in order to know where to go. The first morning session on the 14th of October will take place at the Wallonia External Relations Department. In the afternoon we wil visit the Bruxelles liason office. On the 15th of October the training session in the morning will take place in the representation office of Friuli Venezia Giulia and in the afternoon in the representation of Baden-Württemberg. Please check the programme and the practical information for more detailled addresses.
The introdoctory course is free of charge and will be held in English ( a French session will be held in March 2009).
