Vocation

The Assembly of European Regions (est.1985) is the largest independent network of regions in the wider Europe.

Bringing together 270 regions from 34 countries and 16 interregional organisations, AER's mission is to:

• Promote the principle of subsidiarity and regional democracy
• Increase the regions' political influence within the European institutions
• Support the regions in the process of European enlargement and globalisation
• Facilitate interregional cooperation across wider Europe and beyond

AER President is Michèle SABBAN, Vice-President of Ile-de-France (F).

AER General Secretariat is based in Strasbourg (F).

AER office is also located in Brussels (B).

AER has also a satellite office in Alba Iulia (RO).

Developped by the Task Force on restructuring, the priorities 2007-2012 have been adopted by the AER General Assemby on November 11, 2006. They are to be progressively implemented by the Secretariat.
