The AER Breakfast Briefing, co-organised with the representation of West Sweden looked into mobility in the healthcare sector - both, from the perspective of healthcare professionals and from the patients' perspective.
According to a Eurobarometer survey (February 2007), health is the number 1 priority for 99% of European citizens. At the same time, citizens are taking more and more advantage of the freedom of movement guaranteed under the EU Treaties. In the health field, this means that patients and health professionals are becoming increasingly mobile.
To respond to the consequences of this increased mobility, the European union is currently expanding its legal framework for healthcare mobility and is developing a legal framework to clarify patients' rights to receive healthcare in another country and be reimbursed by their home system.
What are the implications of this proposed legislation for regions? What practical tools have been developed to help health authorities to manage their health professionals? What are the areas of interregional cooperation in healthcare mobility?
These are some of the issues debated during this breakfast briefing. To access the presentations, please log in.
