“Overcoming Regional Disparities - How to achieve a better, EU-coherent implementation of regional policies” - Policy Conference, 6-7 September 2010, Ohrid, Former Republic of Mazedonia

Background and content

Overall objective:

The overall objective of the conference is to address the growing importance of EU regional policy and to foster a process of policy discussion and exchange of experiences between the EU, its candidate and neighbouring countries in South Eastern Europe (SEE) and the South Caucasus. The conference aims to facilitate shared understanding among politicians and practitioners at European, national and regional level, focussing on a better, EU-coherent implementation of regional policies and regional development.

Target group:

Derived from the conference objectives, we invite Excellencies from EU institutions, from ministries responsible for regional development in SEE and South Caucasus countries, as well as high-ranking policy makers, directors and executives from governmental and non-governmental organisations. In addition, key experts from universities, civil society and international organisations will be involved.

Expected outcomes:

Based on the main findings and outcomes of discussions, the conference will formulate a ‘Struga Agenda for regional policy in South Eastern Europe and South Caucasus’ providing recommendations and guidelines for suitable policies to overcome regional disparities in SEE and South Caucasus countries.
