AER at EDDs
  • The European Development Days symbolize EC's determination to enhance public awareness about development cooperation and to strengthen the effectiveness of EU development assistance. It is essential that European citizens feel committed to engage in a stronger partnership with developing countries.
  • In a visit of a delegation from the French Government and the European Commission in December 2007, AER had been invited to contribute as a stakeholder to the 3rd European Development Days (EDD) 2008, organised from Saturday, 15 (evening only) to Monday, 17 November 2008 in Strasbourg in the framework of the forthcoming French EU Presidency. The event took place at the same time as the International Solidarity week in France (15-23 November) and overlapped with the AER General Assembly in Tampere (12-15 November) as well as with a Plenary session of the European Parliament (Strasbourg, 17 November).
  • AER partcipated acitively in the EDDs 2008 Edition.
  •  15–17 November 2008, Strasbourg

Concept of the EDDs

The EDDs are organised in 3 strands: the Policy Forum, the Development Village and a series of "off-events". The Policy Forum is composed of high level panels and plenary addresses, high level roundtables and side events (stakeholders' events which are run in parallel, open network meetings, signature ceremonies). The Development Village is an opportunity for professionals and stakeholders to present themselves by means of stands or to organise  bilateral meetings or internal meetings of their networks. As the 2008 edition was limited to 2 days, increased emphasis had been put on thematic evening sessions. Whereas these two strands were limited to interested and invited public, the "off-events" were open to the general public and may for example consist in a cultural event (concert etc.).

Meeting and conference rooms as well as stands and basic facilities will be provided free of charge by the European Commission. The Commission may assist stakeholders in taking in charge accommodation and transportation costs of southern speakers (within limits of budgetary constraints and depending on the inviting organisations' financial situation).
