The Assembly of European Regions takes the development of the innovation of young people and youth policies to heart in order to improve the integration of young people in society and to increase the number of young people in the public life of the Regions and to ensure that these people have adequate opportunities for education, training and leisure.
Right from its creation in 1985, the AER developed its Eurodyssey programme, precursor for European programmes, which led to thousands of young people being able to gain professional experience in other Regions, improve their foreign language skills and gain in mutual understanding.
The competition for the most youth-friendly Region in Europe seeks to highlight the importance of youth policies, including at regional level, to improve the living conditions of young people and to encourage the creation of, or simply encourage, general social understanding for the work of young people.
This competition will take place every two years.
The competition is aimed at Regions in Europe - irrelevant of AER membership.
The term "Region" is to be understood as defined by the AER.
The jury is made up of the Secretary Generals of the AER founding organisations, a personal representative of the President, the AER Secretary General, a representative of the President of the Committee responsible for youth (currently Committee D) as well as the President of the Sub-Committee on Youth.
The application form is prepared and adopted by the jury. A main theme will be chosen for each application.
Each participating region will receive a certificate.
The winner will be awarded an AER Cup as well as a flag bearing the mention « Most youth-friendly European Region » combined with the indication of the current year.
