21 September 2009 - Brussels, Bruxelles-Capitale (B)

First Meeting of the Working Group "Equal Europe for People with Disabilities"

Meeting of the working group

Bruxelles-Capitale (B), view from the "Mont-des-Arts"

The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was adopted on 13 December 2006 at the UN Headquarters in New York. In terms of its content, the Convention represents a significant change: it establishes disability not only as a social welfare matter but as human rights issue and matter of law. Implementing this Convention requires strong and sustainable cooperation between regions in order to create a transnational European space for people with disabilities.

The AER Working Group on Equal Europe for People with Disabilities will meet on 21th September in Bruxelles-Capitale (B) for the first time, in order to develop a common understanding of the four UN Convention articles constituting the bases of our work.

Therefore, participants will be asked to share their views and interpretations of the four articles gathered below.

It will also be an opportunity to set up our work plan for the upcoming years.

Please note that the meeting venue has changed: The meeting will now take place at:

Wallonie Bruxelles Internationale (WBI)
6th floor
Boulevard Baudouin 12
1000 Bruxelles
(Metro Yser, exit Place d'Yser)

At the occasion of this meeting, the AER Working Group adopted unanimously the following work programme for 2010:

Work Programme 2010
