12th International Congress "Cultural Heritage and New Technologies"

The 12th International Conference on "Cultural Heritage and New Technologies" will take place in Vienna from 5th to 7th November 2007, as a cooperation between the Region of Wien, the Working Community of the Danube Regions and AER Committee 3 (Culture, Education & Interregional Co-operation).

History and objectives of the Conference

The basis for the Conference, which takes place every autumn in Vienna, was laid in 1996 by the authorities of the Region of Vienna in form of a Workshop on Archaeology and Computers.

The departments involved in Archaelogy, Research and data processing had found that, with the advance of modern EDP, more and more archaeologists had turned from mere computer users to developers of tailor-made computer applications. On the other hand, there was a clear lack of co-ordination and co-operation on these issues. Therefore an initiative was started to establish a platform for experts to exchange information on the development of single-standard applications, to solve problems, and to intensify cooperation in this field.

The Conference soon attracted experts from many other fields and various countries in Europe, such as computer specialists, public sector representatives from municipal and regional institutions and private sector representatives and continues to raise interest with an always wider public.
