The AER conference on the theme "Partnerships for the future: the participation of the private sector in public life", took place on 27th-28th March 2006 in Vrsac, at the kind invitation of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina (SCG). This meeting was organised by the Committee on 'Social Cohesion, Social Policy and Public Health' of the Assembly of European Regions (AER).
The aim of this meeting was to present concrete examples of how regions can encourage the private sector, including voluntary and non-governmental organisations or private companies, to contribute to the community and to public life more generally.
The meeting was also an occasion to follow up the Committee's activities. A special focus was given to developing youth-centred regional policies, in particular as regards the prevention of alcohol and drugs related harm, and the development of youth care services. Young people were present at the meeting to give their direct contribution to regional policies affecting their lives.
