Disabilities as a wealth for the regions

The AER Seminar on 'Disabilities as a wealth for the Regions' tool place on 28th-29th September 2006 in Timisoara, at the kind invitation of the Consiliul Judetean Timis (RO). This meeting was organised by the Committee on 'Social Cohesion, Social Policy and Public Health' of the Assembly of European Regions (AER).

The aim of the seminar was to present the general situation of disabled people in Europe and analyse ways in which their integration into society can contribute to the wealth of the regions. Concrete examples from the regions have shown how the policies can contribute to the changing of mentalities. The conclusions of the seminar will be integrated in the preparation of Committee B's contribution of '2007-Year of equal opportunities for all'.

The meeting has also been an occasion to follow up the Committee's activities. A special focus has be en given to the nomination of the candidates for the Presidium of Committee B. All persons interested in playing a more active role in the Presidium of Committee 'Social Cohesion, Social Policy and Public Health' were requested to contact the Committee Secretariat.
