Committee 2 Spring meeting

Spring Meeting

We have all talked about the demographic challenges that Europe is faced with: societies are ageing, we are having less children, soon there will not be enough people in work to support those in retirement, Europe is a greying continent.

And we have also heard about the potential responses to these demographic changes: Revise our welfare systems or watch them collapse under the weight of an ageing population; Move to prevention and the promotion of good health today to spend less on treatment tomorrow; Redirect your health and social services towards more independent living and community care;

AER does not intend to reinvent the wheel. Do not worry if you think you have heard it all... This seminar will not repeat demographic statistics nor will it simply list the challenges we need to respond to. The AER seminar on demographic challenges is all about ACTION: what can you do in your region in order to encourage fertility rates? What should you be doing for elderly care? How can your region support active healthy ageing? What changes do you need to make in your regional budgets in order to be prepared for demographic change?

In cooperation with the AER Youth Team and the Västerbotten Youth Council, we will try to get you to think in a new way about the old and the young, about today and tomorrow. Come along and be prepared to change the way you look at society, what you think of the generations and what you are doing back home in your regions!!!
