There are about 65 million persons with disabilities in the EU, a figure that is constantly growing, due to demographic developments. All European regions are faced with this issue. Hence, the involvement of regional politicians is essential to ensure the dignity and worth of people with disabilities.
Accessibility – not only the physical access but also the access to information and technologies – is fundamental to the enjoyment of all rights as well as to guarantee an independent living. This issue is addressed in the 9th article of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The AER Working Group on Equal Europe for People with Disabilities held a meeting dedicated to the issue of accessibility on 10th May 2010 with the kind support of the Catalan Institute of Social Assistance and Services.
Meeting Languages: Catalan, English.
Meeting Venue: The meeting will take place at: Departamento de Acción Social y Ciudadanía, Palau de Mar, Plaza Pau Vila 1, Barcelona.
