The AER e-he@lth network has joined forces with the European Health Telematics Association (EHTEL) and the European Regional Health Authorities network (EUREGHA) to organise a symposium on e-health in the regions: what regions are doing today, what e-health can offer to regions and how can we get wider deployment of telehealth services in the regions?
This Conference will showcase how regions can be innovative in using e-health and telemedicine services to deliver quality, efficient and secure health and social services. It is an opportunity to understand the role of the regions in e-health and to identify how, by working together, we can further deploy e-health in Europe. With high-level representatives of regions from 10 EU countries, we will look at the regional state of the art in cross-border e-health, electronic health records and telemedicine applications and discuss how to strike a balance between private and public investment in e-health.
This event will take place during the consultation phase on the EU's Active and Healthy Ageing Innovation Partnership, a new programme that will be launched in early 2011 (http://ec.europa.eu/research/innovation-union/index_en.cfm). The Symposium will enable you to know more about this initiative. The European Commission will present its ideas on how the gap between research and the market can be filled.
It is therefore a key opportunity to discuss with other regions, as well as representatives of the business community, academia and public health stakeholders, what you think the priorities of this new initiative should be and to develop possible cooperation ideas.
This event will mark the beginning of the cooperation between AER and EHTEL, with the aim of identifying regions’ needs in terms of telehealth services and the obstacles that need to be overcome in order to deploy these services more widely in Europe’s regions.
This Symposium will be hosted by the Committee of Regions:
