The Europe 2020 Strategy states sustainable growth as one of its main goals. Investments in projects to extend the share of renewable energy sources, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to improve energy efficiency will not only contribute to achieving the 20/20/20 objectives but also represents an important potential for economic growth in Europe.
By harnessing regional energy sources and investing in energy infrastructure, new technologies and increased energy performance, our regions can create added value for their territories: foster innovation and generate new jobs.
What are the preconditions for successful private and public energy investment? How can regional energy policies help promote buisness development and attract investors? What are the benefits of EU support programs and which challenges for the next funding period?
The 2011 European Regions Energy Day looked at energy investment from a European and regional angle. It highlighted the importance of regional actors and presented good practice examples from region all over Europe.
