The first three winning regions were announced during the General Assembly of the AER in Udine, November 2007. The first prize went to Extremadura Region (E). Their project 'Extremadura in Europe' - consists of five actions targeting different audiences, including journalists, business people and villagers. The second prize went to Land Kärnten (A). The 'Europa in Kärnten' project includes regular TV and radio broadcasts informing citizens about Europe and neighbouring regions. The third prize went to Sisak-Moslavina (HR). The 'Youth Building a Path to Europe' project targets young people in seven towns with activities such as European information corners in schools and a debating competition focusing on Europe.
The Jury was composed of representatives of regional newspapers from all over Europe, representatives from a Communication agency and the Secretary General of the Assembly of European Regions.
Deadline for submitting applications was July 2nd. In the beginning of September 2007 the Jury has met to evaluate the projects and select the three first places. On 7-9 November 2007 the Award ceremony took place at the AER General Assembly in Udine. Since December best practices are showcased on the AER Website.

REINE (Extremaduran Network of European Information Institutions) is a network created on the 16th February 2006 under the coordination of the Foreign Action Service of the Presidency of the Regional Government of Extremadura. Various organizations, responsible for spreading information on European affairs across the Region, take part in REINE.
The project is aimed at the raising of the public awareness of European issues, establishing of constant dialogue between local authorities and citizens, development of cross-border partnership with European Union partners, improvement of public servants’ quality of work in the sphere of European integration.
The province of Flevoland in the Netherlands started a project together with the Employers Association and the regional broadcasting company "Omroep Flevoland" to raise the European awareness of entreprenurs and informing general public about the European support. This is done by presenting best practices, European (business) news, policy and financial support on regional TV, a special website and through network meetings during live broadcasting events.
The project aims at systematically provide citizens of the region with objective information about NATO, EU and integration of Ukraine to these organizations via regional and territorial published and electronic mass media. It aims at promoting the creation of the positive image of these organizations among citizens of the region by involving experts on European and Euro-Atlantic topics in public events (with participation of journalists, citizens of the region).
The project Europa in Kärnten pursues an overall approach and consists mainly of three strategically complementing elements: Cooperation with the regional TV and Radio company, Europe Dialogue, Going to schools.
In order to communicate better the European Union to its citizens, Regione Lombardia participated two years ago in the call for proposals of the European commission in order to open an Europe Direct Relay in the region. The project submitted was successful and, starting from 1st May 2005, Regione Lombardia has its own ED Relay: Lombardia Regione d’Europa – Antenna Europe Direct della Regione Lombardia
Euro Info Cente is an (in)formation point that works for SMEs and for the economic development of the area, insuring complex services, from basic information up to event management, follow up and all the other activities requested. It wants to make the bridge between public administration, NGOs and companies – .
European communication is very necessary because the accession and integration to the European Union brings changes that affect in a direct way the life of citizens. That is why Europe Information Centre within the Mures County Council prepared a strategy and an action plan for 2007. The main objective is to create a framework which will ensure proper information of the citizens in Mures County.
The project "Kids for Europe" provides in an easy way information about Europe and The EU for pupils in elementary schools. Main goal is it to learn more about the 27 member states. A pool of 20 "Euro-Informer" (Students from the university Linz) tours through Upper Austria to hold lectures in schools. The Europe Direct relay distributes maps, written information and give aways for the kids.
The aim of the project is to provide information about the European Union, to publish and distribute promotion materials, to arrange discussions and workshops and to organise various events.
Creation of a European Information Centre.
The objective of the project is to raise awareness and deepen understanding of European integration and the enlargement process and thus contribute to the acceptance of positive European values and standards. Activities include: Europ info points and Europ-cabinests, debates, workshops, knowledge competition, round tables, study visits and the promotion in media. The project is co-financed by the EU through PHARE. It is the first time such a project is implemented in Croatia.
