Low noise - Low fare - High Impact

Over the past five years, so-called 'low fare airlines' have had a very strong impact on the development of regional airports, which has encouraged employment and tourism. Regional governments, who are responsible for maintaining the prosperity and well being of the Region's inhabitants, have acknowledged the growing importance of these regional airports.

This is why the Assembly of European Regions decided to pursue its work in the field of aviation with this Conference, dedicated to the success factors for the development of regional airports. The aim was to assess the role of low fare airlines in this development, the potential offered by public-private partnerships and the conditions to ensure a sustainable development of airports in the European Regions. The role of  EU rules on state aid was also be debated.
