Set up in 1985, The Assembly of European Regions (AER – www.aer.eu) is the largest independent network of regions in wider Europe, bringing together more than 250 regions from 35 countries and 16 interregional organisations. The AER is proud to be the political voice of its members, as well as the forum for interregional cooperation in liaison with the States and the European institutions. AER has its headquarters in Strasbourg (F) and another office in Brussels (B). AER representations are also present in Alba (RO) covering South East Europe and in Tunis (TN) dealing with our Euro-Mediterranean work.
AER is currently looking for AER member regions, willing to second a regional officer to work at the AER Strasbourg (F) or Brussels (B) office for a minimum period of 12 months.
The regional seconded officer will be employed by his/her original administration body on the base of a statutory or contractual framework and will still serve his/her employer during the time of his/her secondment. In this regard, the SRO employer promises to maintain his/her salary and to maintain the statutory or contractual link during the whole period of the secondment and to inform the AER from any change in the SRO situation. The employer also promises to keep the entire social rights of the SRO, in particular, in the fields of social security and retirement.The AER remains at all interested region’s disposal to discuss the details of the arrangements. Our experience shows that seconding officers to AER is highly beneficial for the region sending the officer and the officer him/herself. Indeed, during his/her stay at the AER Secretariat, the successful candidate will improve his/her knowledge about regional policies and best practices from a whole range of regions from wider Europe on many different topics. He/she will also gain first-hand experience in European decision-making and will put to practice/improve his/her lobbying skills. Moreover, the successful candidate will have a rare opportunity to expand his/her network of pan-European contacts and put his/her networking skills to practice. These new skills will be of great use for the sending region at the return of the officer.The successful candidate will be working in a multinational environment and with a professional team. The successfull candidate will have to live in the place of his/her secondment, ie Strasbourg or Brussels.
