Innovation is a key priority of AER Committee 1’s strategic plan for 2007-2012. After 5 consecutive years, we have received close to 60 applications since 2006 and 13 quality projects have been rewarded by our jury.
The prize aims at honouring European Regional Authorities' actions, which have stimulated, fostered and implemented innovation in their territory. It aims at promoting best practices as well as to demonstrate how regions can contribute to regional economic welfare.

The 2011 Regional Innovation Award was given to the Region of Wielkopolska (PL) for the project "Pre-incubator of Innovation".
The winning project aims at sponsoring youth business and entrepreneurship, with particular attention to recent university graduates. More in particular, it provides capital, legal advice, technical know-how and other services to "pre-incubate" small businesses.
Through this project, Wielkopolska Region has supported 45 business ideas and helped the creation of successful businesses.
